REAL Tube Overdrive 901 by B.K. Butler Review

A favourite of Billy Gibbons, the Real Tube “901” seems to be the lesser known (and less sought after) brother to the classic Tube Driver used by both David Gilmour and Eric Johnson.  With the addition of the Mid control and unique enclosure you would think it would be the preferred version, but that doesn’t seem to be the case, and that makes this pedal a hidden gem in the world of tone unknown.

Skreddy Major Review

Straying from his usual hand-wired format of boutique pedals, Marc Alhfs of Skreddy Pedals offers up something fresh and more-cost effective to his followers with the introduction of three New Pedals. Of this series we are looking at the Major Overdrive. Continue reading “Skreddy Major Review”

EarthQuaker Devices EQD Tentacle Review For Bass

A “spin-off” effect from the Hoof Reaper pedal, the Tentacle delivers the same biting yet smooth Octave Effect without the previous pedals distortion circuit, making it exceptionally suited for use with the Bass. At a quick glance this sparse design is possibly a bit deceptive, but give it a thorough run and you will be gripped by the Tentacle!

Fulltone 2B Review

A boost with a built in limiter that…ummmm…limits its boost?  Yep, leave it to Mike Fuller to come up with something as wacky (and frankly, as useful) as that.  Even with only two controls, this problem solving pedal offers a surprisingly large amount of tones. Wren and Cuff Caprid Review

Wren and Cuff Caprid

Oh Baby.  What can I say about this one?  It gets the Coveted “5S” Award. You could go on for hours reading about it’s use of vintage parts and the authenticity of it’s enclosure (even the FONT for the labeling is correct.)  Heck even the circuit board has “3003” printed on it (look it up.)  This Beast can roll with a LOT of great vintage units out there, and while that technically doesn’t say much considering E.H.’s consistency throughout the years, with this pedal, you CAN have something that is reliable, dependable AND worry free: keep in mind those vintage units are getting up there in value and taking them to the show can worry a few people.

Pigeon FX Fuzz Face Kit Review

For all of the clones and copies on the market of the venerable fuzz face circuit, a less often seen product is the Fuzz Face kit. Considering the sparse amount of parts account in a Fuzz Face compared to modern distortion devices this makes quite a bit of sense. If you have the bare essential components [enclosure, foot switch, input and output jacks and potentiometers] the real important parts can suitably be ordered. You just have to make sure they are the “right” parts.
But who knows what the right parts actually are? It looks like Pigeon FX do. Continue reading “Pigeon FX Fuzz Face Kit Review”
