AnalogMan BC 109 SunFace vs Skreddy Lunar Module

AnalogMike  (Mike Piera) and Marc Ahlfs are both well know in today’s large circle of fuzz builders but it wasn’t long ago when that circle was a lot smaller, and these two circuit hounds were the go-tos for vintage styled effects.  Little has changed since then in that regard, but the needs and wants of players certainly have.  Or have they?  Do gear hounds still seek out simple two  knob fuzz boxes, or do they prefer the options afforded by more up to date circuits?  Vintage fuzz is being used by many modern players… Can both be valid in today’s market of strong opinions of what a fuzz “should” be?

Wren and Cuff Caprid

Oh Baby.  What can I say about this one?  It gets the Coveted “5S” Award. You could go on for hours reading about it’s use of vintage parts and the authenticity of it’s enclosure (even the FONT for the labeling is correct.)  Heck even the circuit board has “3003” printed on it (look it up.)  This Beast can roll with a LOT of great vintage units out there, and while that technically doesn’t say much considering E.H.’s consistency throughout the years, with this pedal, you CAN have something that is reliable, dependable AND worry free: keep in mind those vintage units are getting up there in value and taking them to the show can worry a few people.

Pigeon FX Fuzz Face Kit Review

For all of the clones and copies on the market of the venerable fuzz face circuit, a less often seen product is the Fuzz Face kit. Considering the sparse amount of parts account in a Fuzz Face compared to modern distortion devices this makes quite a bit of sense. If you have the bare essential components [enclosure, foot switch, input and output jacks and potentiometers] the real important parts can suitably be ordered. You just have to make sure they are the “right” parts.
But who knows what the right parts actually are? It looks like Pigeon FX do. Continue reading “Pigeon FX Fuzz Face Kit Review”
